WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange could have information that is so important, it could land him a full pardon.
At least that’s what California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher told The Daily Caller in an exclusive interview this week.
Rohrabacher met with Assange earlier this week to discuss “what might be necessary to get him out” of asylum in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London, according to The Daily Caller, suggesting that Assange might be pardoned in exchange for information about the Democratic National Committee email leak last year.
The extensive email leaks published by WikiLeaks badly damaged the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, and are the chief reason for the current obsession among Democrats and the media who think the Russian government colluded with Donald Trump’s campaign to sway the election in Trump’s favor. However, Assange reportedly told the representative Wednesday that Russia was not WikiLeaks’ source.
That leaves everyone to wonder where the leak actually came from.
“He has information that will be of dramatic importance to the United States and the people of our country as well as to our government,” Rohrabacher told the Daily Caller. “Thus, if he comes up with that, you know he’s going to expect something in return.”
Rohrabacher also said that he hadn’t received that information yet but was confident he would receive it.
If you’ll recall, Assange has been living in asylum in the Ecuadorean Embassy since in 2012.
“He can’t even leave the embassy to get out to Washington to talk to anybody if he doesn’t have a pardon,” Rohrabacher explained. “Obviously, there is an issue there that needs to be dealt with, but we haven’t come to any conclusion yet.”
“If I had to bet on it, I would bet that we are going to get the information that will be mind-boggling and of major historical significance,” Rohrabacher said, adding that if the information was important enough, he would take it to Trump directly.
The information must be mind-boggling if the word “pardon” is being tossed around.
