Just hours before Susan Rice was scheduled to testify about her role in the Obama-era “unmasking” scandal, a shocking change of plans was announced.
The former national security advisor’s testimony before a House intelligence committee which is investigating possible crimes has been suddenly and mysteriously canceled.
According to Fox News, the Trump administration has alleged that Rice broke the law by using intelligence resources to “unmask” and reveal the names of individuals associated with Donald Trump who cropped up in surveillance operations. Such names would normally be redacted in intelligence reports to protect individuals in question.
“Fox News was initially told Rice would be giving closed-door testimony Tuesday before the Republican-led House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence,” the network reported. “But that session has apparently been postponed.”
Many prominent Republicans are eager to ask Rice questions about how she used intelligence resources, and what actions she took during Obama’s final months as president.
“Ohio GOP Rep. Jim Jordan last week told Fox News that he wants Rice to answer the basic question: ‘Did you unmask the names and if so why?’” Fox reported.
Rice’s statements since the scandal was uncovered have been inconsistent. Back in March…
…the Obama appointee assured PBS News that she “knew nothing” about the unmasking of people connected to Trump.
However, she then seemed to contradict that statement.
“She later acknowledged having occasionally sought the identities of Trump associates who communicated with foreigners, a process known as ‘unmasking’ in the intelligence community. But she later told MSNBC, ‘I leaked nothing to nobody,’” Fox reported.
It’s incredibly convenient — and suspicious — that Rice is suddenly indisposed and unable to face hard questions about her activities as a key player in the Obama administration.
The American people deserve to know the truth about whether or not the nation’s spy networks were used for a political agenda against Donald Trump.
If that unmasking did in fact take place, it would be par for the course under the Obama administration. During his tenure in the White House, Obama repeatedly showed his willingness to use government agencies for questionable purposes.
For example, the IRS scandal showed that the White House had no problem using official resources to harass and target conservative opponents.
In a similar vein, Obama’s ATF was used to push a political agenda during the “Fast and Furious” gun-walking scandal.
When the details of that botched operation were revealed, the administration scrambled to cover up and deny its involvement… just as Hillary Clinton and Rice herself did in the Benghazi terrorist attack of 2012.
It was a modus operandi of the Obama team to use federal agencies as weapons against political opponents, instead of directing them to serve the American people. The “unmasking” scandal is just another instance of that longstanding trend.
If Rice truly has nothing to hide, she should have no problem answering basic questions before a House panel… but this recent development only deepens the possibility that she may be covering for Obama and keeping the truth from Americans.
